Soviet Heritage Tours

This is my new tour agency.  For a princely sum, my partner and I will let you experience life in Soviet Times.  Cook over a real wood burning stove, sleep on the skin of a Soviet bear, and heat your apartment with wood NOT electricity!  Just imagine the journey you will take!

Making Pelmeni . . . .

Yesterday we had a pelmeni making party. It was fun but took absurdly long! It was difficult to roll out the dough, my abs actually hurt today. I don't remember it being so hard in the past! In the end we made about 70 the first day and then my friend made another 70 or so the next day. Pelmeni are delicious little dumplings originating from Siberia.

Yusef a.k.a Cat Stevens

Cat Stevens was on the Tavis Smiley show last night and it finally all made sense to me. He had enough to make his own future and choices. Nothing wrong with that. He still has a fabulous voice but is barely recognizable to me. So Tavis Smiley . . his show looks like it was totally produced in 1985. The set, the lighting, the clothing, music and so on. It's so 1985. Check it out.

Happy New Year!

Yes, it's January. It's 2009. Hmmm . . .add all appropriate incredulity here. I had a great New Years with the Georgian girls. how fun they are! They undoubtedly always out drink me for sure but we danced and drank and laughed at people, yay! A random dumbass claimed he was a Titans football player to impress me? I wonder if that really works for him. I asked him what the Titans were, just to be a jerk. :)

Last night I went to the art crawl. This opened up a whole new world for me in Nashville. I had no idea and was so glad I went. I am not a critical lover of art but definitely a lover of the process to create art. There was one artist, Jordan Eagles, who was working in blood. Very cool, but I wish I knew why he was working in blood. Also, I saw works by Steven Knudson. I would like to shrink them down to quarter size to carry around with me. That way whenever I wanted I could look at them with a magnifying glass. The paintings weren't super detailed but somehow I kept finding new things in them.

The Rabbit

So I am finally living within my means as Gilbert would say. I bought a car, a little rabbit. I like it a lot so far and the best part . . . it has heated seats! I know not really a recent revolution in the car industry but this is high tech compared to my old jeep. I felt a little sorry for the jeep. It was the same when I bought the Jeep, I felt sorry for the subaru (even though that subaru was a total lemon and the Russians had destroyed a lot of it). I tend to give life to the non-living things. I'm not the only one who does this, see here.

Holiday Parade Photos

I don't know what the little cars were for but I loved them. And this guy kept dancing with all the bands when they came by. I think he was just trying to stay warm!

Nashville Holiday Parade

Friday night it was 27 degrees and little windy. I found myself watching the Holiday parade down Broadway and onwards. My feet were little stumps by the end of the fairly long parade. While I haven't been to a parade in years and years this one was fun but where were all the floats? It was really an "Emergency Vehicle and Shriner Parade". Luckily there were no big emergencies in Nashville on Friday night! One of the cars of the clowns broke down in the middle of the parade and the clowns tried to fix it. After several funny minutes, the clowns decided to push the broken car with another car. It was quite comical!
